Vol. 110 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Broadcast of Political Statements.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs if he has considered the desirability of permitting representatives of all political Parties to broadcast uncensored statements on current national affairs.

I am in general agreement with the suggestion that political Parties represented in Dáil Éireann should be allowed to broadcast on selected matters of current political interest. I propose to discuss with Deputies through a suitable committee of the Dáil the possibilities in this regard, and thereafter in association with the Director of Broadcasting to prepare a suitable scheme for submission to and discussion by Dáil Éireann.

Will the Minister say how many Parties in Dáil Éireann will be entitled to this advantage?

In accordance with the promise made by the Taoiseach, I can say there will be no discrimination made against any Party.

Will the Parties on the opposite side count as seven or as one?

That is a matter to be decided by the committee. Listen to the answer you got.

Is the Minister not to be allowed to answer?
