Vol. 110 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Boyle Hospital Plans.

asked the Minister for Health (a) if any recent developments have taken place regarding the erection of the new hospital at Boyle, County Roscommon; (b) the date upon which the first proposal was made for its erection; (c) the amount paid up to date in connection with the scheme to consulting engineers, architects, quantity surveyors, etc., and (d) the approximate date on which advertisements inviting tenders will appear.

(a) The erection of a 30-bed district hospital at Boyle has been approved. The local authority's proposals, based on the agreed accommodation, have been submitted to the Department and are under examination; (b) the first proposal for the erection of the 30-bed hospital was made to the Department in March, 1945. Earlier proposals had been made 15 years ago for the erection of separate hospitals for fever and general cases; but detailed consideration led to the conclusion that the proposals were too elaborate, and they were abandoned; (c) no information is available as to amounts, if any, paid by the local authority to consultants in connection with the scheme for the proposed 30-bed district hospital; (d) it is not possible to indicate the date on which tenders will be invited.
