Vol. 110 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Wages of Dublin County Council Labourers.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he will state the weekly wages of the county council labourers employed in the Stillorgan district; whether these men are paid considerably less than those employed by the Dún Laoghaire Borough Corporation for doing similar work; and, if so, whether he will take steps to remedy this inequity.

The rate of wages paid by the Dublin County Council to labourers employed in the Stillorgan district is at present 63/- a week. It is and has always been less than the rates paid by the Dún Laoghaire Corporation. The rates of wages of labourers employed by local authorities are primarily a matter for each local authority concerned, and, as a rule, the rates paid by municipal authorities are higher than those paid by county councils. The question of approving a general adjustment of rates is at present under active consideration.
