Vol. 110 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Stillorgan (County Dublin) Housing.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he will indicate: (1) the living accommodation in the houses in Kilmacud Road and Dublin Road, Stillorgan, together with (a) the number of these houses which have been condemned, and (b) whether these condemned houses are still inhabited; (2) the number of houses at Beaufield, Stillorgan, which are occupied (a) by more than one family, (b) by more than two families; (3) when any council houses were last erected in Stillorgan, and whether he will direct that suitable houses be erected there at once; (4) whether facilities have been afforded for speculative building in Stillorgan while the housing requirements of the workers have been neglected.

With regard to (1) and (2), the information requested is not available in the Department. I shall ascertain if the local authority has the particulars and if so shall communicate with the Deputy.

Cottages were last provided under the Labourers Acts in Stillorgan in 1938. The question of providing further cottages is under consideration by the local authority.

As to (4), I assume that the Deputy is referring to building licences and permits for the purchase of timber and cement. The grant of these facilities rests with the Minister for Industry and Commerce. I am aware that the highest priority in the issue of building licences and permits is afforded to local authority housing schemes.
