Vol. 110 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Civil Service Examination Results.

Mr. Byrne

asked the Minister for Finance if he will state the reasons for the delay in publishing the results of the examination held in September last for certain posts in the Civil Service which was confined to ex-members of the Defence Forces, and if he will state when the results are likely to be made known.

The conducting of examinations and the publishing of the results of such examinations is a statutory function of the Civil Service Commissioners. I have been informed by the commissioners that the delay in issuing the results referred to by the Deputy was due to the exceptionally heavy examination programme with which they have had to deal in recent months.

Two separate competitions confined to members and ex-members of the Defence Forces were held in September last, one for posts of clerical officer and the other for posts of executive officer.

The results of the clerical officer competition issued to candidates on the 27th February.

The executive officer competition consisted of a written examination and an interview. The results of the written examination issued to candidates on the 3rd of March. The Civil Service Commissioners are arranging for the interviews to take place before the end of the present month.
