asked the Minister for Local Government if he will review the existing pensions paid to pensioned employees of local authorities, with a view to increasing such pensions in relation to the increase in the cost of living since 1939.
Written Answers. - Pensioners of Local Authorities.
The matter is under consideration. Superannuation allowances granted to employees of local authorities can be adjusted in certain cases in which service ceased after the 1st July, 1940, and the remuneration on which the allowances were based was affected by the standstill Orders. There is, however, no provision for the adjustment of pensions of local employees generally and any proposals for such adjustment would have to be examined as part of the larger question of the adjustment of pensions of superannuated employees of public authorities including State employees.
