Vol. 110 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Tipperary Water Supply.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he will state the cause of the delay in sanctioning the provision of the proposed water supply from the Galtee Mountains to Cashel, Golden and Bansha.

Mr. Murphy

On the 6th January last a letter was issued to the county council setting out a number of points which had been the subject of discussions between the officials of the Department and the council's consulting engineer, who had agreed to reconsider the matters raised in discussion and to submit a further report. This report is at present awaited.

Can the Minister say if he is aware that a fire broke out in the town of Cashel recently which, due to Providence alone, had not very serious results? There was not even a bucket of water to extinguish the fire and, in view of the serious position there, would the Minister state if he is prepared to expedite sanction of the proposed scheme?

Mr. Murphy

As I have informed the Deputy, one of the first steps is to receive the report referred to in the answer. As soon as that report is available I undertake to see what can be done to expedite further steps in regard to the whole matter.
