Vol. 110 No. 7

Written Answers. - Trade Plates and Hackney Licences.

Mr. Collins

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce whether he will state the conditions at present governing the grant of trade plates for lorries and hackney licences for cars, and when the issue of permits for those vehicles will no longer be necessary.

The conditions governing the grant of merchandise licences are contained in Section 12 of the Road Transport Act, 1933, and Section 115 of the Transport Act, 1944. The grant of licences for the operation of hackney vehicles is reserved to the Garda Síochána under the provisions of the Road Traffic Act, 1933. It is not clear to what permits the Deputy refers in the latter part of his question. If it is to petrol licences, the position is that rationing cannot be removed while petrol remains in short supply.
