Vol. 110 No. 9

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Land Purchase Policy.

asked the Minister for Lands whether he proposes to alter the recent policy in regard to land purchase with a view to the resumption and division in the national interest of the many non-productive estates.

During the emergency years acquisition of lands in all counties was largely suspended. On 6/12/45 the acquisition of lands within the congested districts counties was removed from the scope of emergency restrictions. The continued close down on acquisition in the counties outside the scheduled congested districts has resulted in practically no land being now on hands for the relief of congestion or the enlargement of uneconomic holdings. The restrictions were removed some six weeks ago and we are now in a position to acquire land in all countries. The relief of congestion and the enlargement of uneconomic holdings will in future take priority in Land Commission activities.
