Vol. 110 No. 9

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Broadcasting of Scientific Lectures.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs whether he will take steps to broadcast from Radio Éireann scientific lectures submitted by recognised authorities on various subjects of topical interest and practical value.

Many series of talks, as well as single talks, by recognised authorities on scientific subjects of topical interest and practical value have been broadcast. One very interesting series by a leading scientist, which ran for ten weeks, has just concluded and another, on a scientific matter of vital interest, ran recently for five weeks.

I am sending the Deputy a copy of the Radio Éireann Annual Report for 1946 in which talks given on scientific subjects are indicated as well as other series of talks which often included references to scientific matters.

It is the constant aim of the Director of Broadcasting to secure talks of this sort and if the Deputy, or any other Deputy, has in mind any qualified person who would be willing to prepare such talks the Director will be very pleased to be put in touch with him.
