Vol. 110 No. 9

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Field Drainage Scheme.

asked the Minister for Agriculture if he will state: (1) on what grounds County Kerry was excluded from the scheme of field drainage in view of the fact that unemployment has resulted there from the discontinuance of the production of hand-won turf by local authorities and by Bord na Móna possibly to a greater extent than in the Counties of Galway and Mayo, and (2) whether he will consider taking the necessary steps to include County Kerry or, at least, South Kerry, in the scheme.

The Field Drainage Scheme is only one of many provided by the Government to ensure that there will be no unemployment in the hand-won turf areas; if it proves in practice to be as useful and successful as I confidently hope it will be, there is no reason why it should not be put into operation in other counties where demand for it develops.

How much is it going to cost?

Nous verrons.
