Vol. 110 No. 9

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Establishment of Civil List.

asked the Taoiseach if the Government will consider the desirability of recommending to Dáil Éireann a scheme for the establishment of a Civil List or National Roll of Citizens who have rendered service of an outstanding kind to the nation and which would provide that those citizens and in certain cases, their dependents, may receive, from a National Fund approved for the purpose, such allowances as may be necessary to guarantee them freedom from want.

The Government have not had an opportunity of examining the proposal referred to in the Deputy's question, but the matter will be considered in due course.
