Vol. 110 No. 9

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - I.R.A. Prisoners in England.

asked the Taoiseach if he will state that, in the event of an amnesty being granted to the I.R.A. prisoners in England, such a humanitarian act on the part of the British Government will be deeply appreciated by the Government and people of this country and that no obstacles will be placed in the way of any such prisoners returning to Ireland, if they so desire.

The statement suggested by the Deputy represents the attitude of the Government.

The Deputy will recall that, in reply to a Dáil question on the 14th ultimo, the Minister for External Affairs intimated that he had made representations to the British Government regarding the Irish prisoners referred to and that he had conveyed to that Government the hope that they would find it possible to examine the cases of those prisoners with a view to securing their release at an early date.
