Vol. 110 No. 10

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Issue of White Papers.

asked the Minister for Finance if it is intended to issue another White Paper on National Income and Expenditure, similar to that issued in 1945, and, if so, when it is expected to be available.

As was indicated in reply to a similar question by the Deputy on the 3rd December, 1947, it is intended to publish official estimates of National Income and Expenditure in continuation of the series inaugurated in the White Paper on National Income and Expenditure published in 1946. Progress has, however, been retarded by staff and other difficulties. It is accordingly not possible to indicate at present when the next White Paper will appear.

asked the Minister for Finance if he will arrange to have an Economic White Paper, similar in principle to that recently published by the British Government, issued at an early date.

In view of the absence of up-to-date estimates of national income and expenditure, it is not possible to arrange for the preparation of an economic survey here on the lines of the publication mentioned by the Deputy. Consideration is being given to the question of issuing as a White Paper certain material relating to recent economic developments in the country.
