Vol. 110 No. 10

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Dollars for American Tour.

asked the Minister for Finance if he will state the amount in dollars recently allocated to Deputies de Valera and Aiken for their tour of U.S.A.; and if similar facilities will be provided for other citizens desiring to visit the United States.

It is not the practice to disclose the amounts of foreign exchange made available to individual citizens as a result of applications made by them under the Exchange Control Order, 1947. Such applications and the decisions taken in individual cases are regarded as confidential. I may say, however, that the amounts in dollars allocated to Deputies de Valera and Aiken were within the scale normally authorised in respect of visits to U.S.A. which, for the purposes of the Exchange Control Order, 1947, are regarded as necessary. Similar facilities will be provided for any other citizen desiring to visit the United States if his visit can, for the purposes of the Exchange Control Order, 1947, be shown to be necessary.
