Vol. 110 No. 11

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Extension of Electricity Supply Board Service.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce whether he will consider the advisability of asking the Electricity Supply Board to provide electric light and power to residents near Collinstown aerodrome and also to extend these services to the areas of Corduff, Ballyboughal, Garristown, Naul, Loughshinney and Balrothery.

The areas mentioned in the question would come within the scope of the rural electrification scheme. In planning for development under the scheme, the Electricity Supply Board gives preference to areas which show the best return by way of fixed charge revenue on the capital cost of the network. The extension of supply to the residents near Collinstown Aerodrome would have to be by underground cable, and this would substantially increase the capital cost involved.
