Vol. 110 No. 11

Written Answers to Questions. - Officers' Allowances.

asked the Minister for Defence if he will state why the extra pay which some regular Army officers attached to An Fórsa Cosanta Áitiúil are entitled to was withheld from them because they attended special courses.

The extra allowance which is in fact an allowance to cover all expenses, including subsistence (other than travelling expenses) incurred on Fórsa Cosanta Áitiúil duties payable under the regulations to officers engaged on duties with the Fórsa Cosanta Áitiúil is not issuable when the officers are attending a course of instruction unless such a course is certified by the Director of the Fórsa Cosanta Áitiúil to be related to the officers' duties with the Fórsa Cosanta Áitiúil and intended to improve their efficiency in the discharge of such duties.

The officers referred to in the question were withdrawn from duty with An Fórsa Cosanta Áitiúil and replaced by other officers.

The officers who replaced them are in receipt of the allowance.

The Dáil adjourned at 10.30 p.m. to 3 p.m. on Thursday, 13th May, 1948.
