Vol. 110 No. 11

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Dredging of Dingle Harbour.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he is aware of the necessity of dredging Dingle harbour due to the presence of a sand bank which constitutes a serious hardship to the fishermen there; and, if so, whether he will undertake to have an inspection carried out with a view to making a grant available for the carrying out of a suitable dredging scheme.

The Dingle Harbour Commissioners made application in December, 1946, for State assistance for certain works, including dredging. They were then informed that the heavy expenditure involved in these works would not be justified by reference to the existing trade and future prospects of the harbour. The question whether any works would be justified in respect of fishery interests is under examination.
