Vol. 110 No. 11

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Dublin Cottages.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he will request the Dublin County Council to erect 20 cottages in the Lusk area during the coming year to meet the serious need for such cottages there.

Mr. Murphy

The housing authority have acquired sites at Lusk for 20 cottages, but progress with the scheme has been hampered by difficulties in providing adequate water and sewerage services. If I find that these difficulties cannot be overcome quickly, I shall ask the housing authority to consider the carrying out of the scheme on a low density development basis. Arrangements have already been made to proceed with four of the cottages in this manner.

Is the Minister prepared to proceed with the building of these cottages, in view of the fact that the possibility of providing water in the near future is under consideration?

Mr. Murphy

I do not think I can add anything to what I have already said in my reply. I have indicated the difficulties—which I hope to overcome in the manner which I have described. However, if the Deputy would like to make any further suggestions in this matter I shall be happy to receive them from him.

asked the Minister for Local Government whether county council cottages will be provided in the vicinity of Palmerstown, County Dublin, and, if so, how many cottages will be built during the coming year.

Mr. Murphy

It is proposed to proceed with the erection of 20 cottages at Palmerstown as soon as site development works at present in progress have been completed.
