Vol. 110 No. 11

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Castlebar Mental Hospital Employees.

asked the Minister for Health if he will state the reason why sanction to the recommendations of the Mayo county manager in the case of the shoemaker and the upholsterer employed at Castlebar Mental Hospital has been withheld; and whether he will reconsider these two recommendations.

Sanction has not been given to the county manager's proposal in relation to the shoemaker employed at Castlebar Mental Hospital pending the receipt of further information from the county manager regarding the agreed rates of wages payable to shoemakers in the area. A general approval was issued in July last for the payment of such agreed rates. The manager proposed to pay a special allowance to the upholsterer. It has been suggested to him that it would be more appropriate to apply to this employee an inclusive salary scale equivalent to that approved for a post of charge nurse (male).
