Vol. 110 No. 12

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Untenanted Land in County Mayo.

asked the Minister for Lands if he is aware that Michael Cunnane is in possession of approximately 37 acres of untenanted land at Caraun, Claremorris, County Mayo (R. E. Prendergast estate), and, if so, whether he will proceed to acquire this land for the relief of local congestion.

The Land Commission do not propose to take any action at present regarding the acquisition of the lands of Caraun, owned by Michael Cunnane.

Is the Minister aware that about eight years ago the Land Commission instituted proceedings to take over this holding of land which was then untenanted and can he state why such proceedings have now been dropped or will the Land Commission proceed to acquire this land in the near future?

I am sorry I have not the information as to why the proceedings were dropped before. However, if the Deputy will make representations to my Department I have no doubt that the commissioners will examine the matter again. The difficulty which may have prevented them from acquiring the land then may have disappeared by now.
