Vol. 110 No. 12

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Killarney Net Fishing.

asked the Minister for Agriculture if he will state the number of applications which have been received in his Department for compensation from people who lost their livelihood through the lifting of the nets on the Killarney lakes; and, if so, whether he is in a position to state when the applications in question will be considered.

Assuming that this question refers to the operation of Section 35 of the Fisheries Act, 1939, I may say that seven applications for compensation have been lodged with my Department, of which four came from claimants in respect of erstwhile netting rights in the waters named and three from persons claiming as ex-employees of netting proprietors. Correspondence is still in progress with these applicants, and certain additional information which is needed to enable their claims to be dealt with is awaited.
