Vol. 110 No. 12

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Donegal Egg Prices.

asked the Minister for Agriculture if his attention has been drawn to the fact that in several districts in County Donegal egg merchants are paying egg producers less than the price fixed for their eggs and, if so, what steps he proposes to take to ensure that egg producers there will receive the fixed price of 3/- per dozen.

My attention has been drawn to the fact that producers in several districts of Donegal were not receiving the price for their hen eggs to which they were entitled. That price was announced last March as being 3/- per dozen, and egg merchants in Donegal and elsewhere should be in a position to pay that amount to producers. I impressed this recently on the Donegal egg merchants, and I have received an assurance from them that producers will now receive 3/- per dozen while the export prices remain as at present. I understand a meeting of the egg merchants took place yesterday and that it was decided to pay 3/- per dozen as from next Monday.
