Vol. 110 No. 12

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Married Civic Guards.

asked the Minister for Justice if he is aware of the grievance which many married Civic Guards feel through being stationed long distances from their wives and families and if, in view of the great hardship and break up of family life involved, he will take steps to arrange that married Guards are not so transferred in future.

It is of course inevitable that transfers of members of the Garda Síochána take place from time to time. In directing such transfers the Commissioner endeavours to reduce to a minimum any inconvenience caused to the persons affected. The regulation relating to the position of Guards who get married has been amended recently and many of the hardships referred to by the Deputy will be removed.
