Vol. 110 No. 12

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Irish Employers' Mutual Insurance Association.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he will state what the present position is regarding the affairs of the Irish Employers' Mutual Insurance Association which is in liquidation since 1938, further, whether he can indicate the amount of the assets and liabilities of this company so far as at present ascertained; how long the liquidation proceedings will continue, and when the claims— especially of injured workmen—will be paid.

The High Court appointed an official liquidator for the purpose of conducting the proceedings in winding up the Irish Employers' Mutual Insurance Association, Limited. The liquidator is responsible to the court for the discharge of his duties, and I have no function or responsibility in the matter.

Is the Parliamentary Secretary aware that great hardship exists in a number of cases—in respect of employers who are paying compensation granted in the Circuit Courts to insured people, and in at least one case in which a boy lost his entire right arm and has received no compensation to date, with the exception of a period of about two months before the company went into liquidation?

This matter is still before the court, and I have no function in the matter.
