Vol. 110 No. 14

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Donegal Boat Repairs.

Mr. Blaney

asked the Minister for Agriculture whether, in view of the fact that fishermen operating the fishing grounds off North-West Donegal are being put to great inconvenience and cost in having to travel the long distance from these fishing grounds to Killybegs to have repairs carried out to their boats, he will consider providing a subsidiary boat yard at Meveigh for the purpose of boat repairing and the building of small craft.

I will ask the Sea Fisheries Association to look into this, but obviously the most suitable place in County Donegal for the building of fishing boats and the execution of major repairs is the wellequipped yard recently set up by the association at Killybegs. The fishermen of that county are far more favourably situated in respect of such services than are most of their fellow-workers on other parts of the coast.

Mr. Blaney

I take it from the Minister's reply that he is not prepared to consider the provision of a subsidiary boat repairing yard at Meveigh, Downings.

I opened my reply by saying that I would ask the Sea Fisheries Association to look into this matter.

Mr. Blaney

I thank the Minister. I did not catch the first part of his reply.
