Vol. 111 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Cork Telephone Facilities.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs whether he is aware that telephone kiosks are urgently needed at Kanturk and at Newmarket, County Cork; and, if so, whether he will take steps to provide those towns with kiosks as soon as possible.

Arrangements have been made for the erection of a telephone kiosk at Kanturk and the work will be carried out during the current financial year.

As regards Newmarket, consideration will be given to the provision of a kiosk there in due course, but there are at present many other centres with stronger claims for attention.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs if he will state when applicants for telephones in the Clonakilty area will be facilitated.

Under the Department's general scheme for the clearance of arrears of telephone applications, it is hoped to provide service for most of the pre-1948 applicants in Clonakilty before September next.
