Vol. 111 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Sherkin Island Pier.

asked the Minister for Agriculture if he will reconsider the amount of the grant sanctioned by his Department for the erection of a pier to enable the landing of cattle at Sherkin Island.

It is not the function of my Department to fix or sanction the amount of grants for projects of this kind. The function of my Department is limited to advising in the matter having regard to the agricultural and fisheries interests served.

Mr. Collins

In view of the fact that 50 per cent. of the cost will be accepted by the local county council, would the Minister be prepared to consider any advance on the proposed contribution in order to get this pier erected expeditiously?

I am obliged, unfortunately, to inform the Deputy that the matter does not come within my jurisdiction at all. It is a matter for the consideration of the Minister for Finance. If the Deputy will put down his question to that Minister I am sure his representations will be sympathetically considered.
