Vol. 111 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Field Drainage Scheme.

asked the Minister for Agriculture if he will state: (a) the number of applications received from landholders in County Galway for grants under the field drainage scheme; (b) the total acreage proposed to be improved; (c) whether applications under this scheme are now being examined, and (d) when the work is likely to commence.

(a) Under the special farm drainage scheme 214 applications have been received from landholders in County Galway; (b) the total acreage, the drainage of which is proposed in the 214 applications, is 1,254½ acres; (c) applications are being examined according as they are received. They are then forwarded to my Department's local officers for immediate investigation and report; (d) work has already commenced in two cases and arrangements to proceed with work in other cases are completed.

I may add that six cases involving 136 acres which are suitable have had to be postponed because labour is not available in the area.

Would somebody please ask me a supplementary question about that? Mo bhrón.
