Vol. 111 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Cavan-Meath Drainage Scheme.

asked the Minister for Finance if he will state whether proposals under the special employments scheme for drainage on the Upper Inny on the Cavan-Meath border have been submitted to his Department; and, if so, whether he can say when a comprehensive drainage scheme under the Arterial Drainage Act, 1945, will be undertaken on this river.

Applications have been received by the Special Employment Schemes Office under the Rural Improvements Scheme for the cleaning of three minor drains discharging into the Upper Inny drainage district on the Cavan-Meath border. In the case of one of these applications the work was carried out in 1946; in another case an offer of a grant was made to the applicants last January but has not yet been accepted; the third was inspected recently and is at present under examination.

As regards the second part of the question, the carrying out of a comprehensive scheme for the Inny catchment under the Arterial Drainage Act, 1945, is a separate matter. It is not possible to say when such a scheme can be undertaken.
