Vol. 111 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Castletownroche Train Service.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he is aware that the people of Castletownroche and the surrounding district have now no means of public conveyance to Cork City; that at present one train only arrives there at 1.15 p.m. and the only outward one leaves at 2 p.m.; that under the altered time table coming into force on the 1st June, 1948, any person leaving Castletownroche for Cork will have to stay the night in Cork City; and if, in the circumstances, he will immediately direct Córas Iompair Éireann to restore the bus service to and from Castletownroche on the Cork to Kilfinnane route.

I am informed by Córas Iompair Éireann that they would be unable to consider the restoration of this omnibus service at present, having regard to the condition of the road.

Arrangements are being made by the company for the Rosslare boat-train to stop at Castletownroche on Saturdays for the purpose of setting down passengers during the period that this service is in operation. This will enable persons in Castletownroche to visit Cork on Saturdays and return the same day.
