Vol. 111 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Discharge of Garda.

asked the Minister for Justice if he will cause an investigation to be held into the circumstances under which ex-Garda Clifford (Reg. No. 4215) was discharged from the force; and whether, having regard to the merits of his case, he will have this matter reviewed with a view to having him awarded a pension.

The man referred to in the question resigned from the Garda Síochána on 7th December, 1938. I have examined his case carefully and I am satisfied that it is not one in which a pension could be awarded.

Mr. A. Byrne

Can the Minister say whether a superintendent of the Garda Síochána or any other representative has recommended this man for a pension?

Such persons have not any right to make a recommendation. Does the Deputy want the superintendent to be dismissed?
