Vol. 111 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Technical School Candidates.

asked the Minister for Education whether he has had any inquiry made regarding the educational standards of the candidates who presented themselves for the recent entrance examination for admission to the junior day courses at Bolton Street Technical School.

I have not had any inquiry made into the educational standards of the candidates at any entrance examination for admission to the courses mentioned. I would point out that these entrance examinations are held at the beginning of the school session, and that the most recent one was that held in September last.

Does the Minister not consider, in view of the recent statement by the chief executive officer of the City of Dublin Vocational Education Committee, that an inquiry is necessary?

I do not think it would serve any particularly useful purpose at present. It will be remembered that the normal school facilities were not available for many of the pupils in the City of Dublin who entered vocational schools in September last.
