Vol. 111 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Rail Transport of Goods.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he will state the amount of the accounts now outstanding and due to Córas Iompair Éireann for rail transport of goods.

The accounts rendered by Córas Iompair Éireann are compiled in the manner prescribed by the Minister for Industry and Commerce under Section 26 of the Transport Act, 1944. The audited accounts of the company for each year are laid before each House of the Oireachtas.

The information sought by the Deputy is not separately distinguished in the accounts or statistics furnished by the company, and I would not feel warranted in asking the company to compile it.

Is the Minister aware that it is alleged that, through a faulty system of accountancy, goods are actually being conveyed by rail for nothing?

I would be very glad indeed if the Deputy could supply me——

Or the company.

——with particulars. If he does, I will undertake to forward them to the company.
