Vol. 111 No. 16

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Letting of House in Crumlin.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he will state (a) the accommodation of No. 12 Captain's Lane, Crumlin; (b) whether this house has been let recently by the Dublin Corporation under the provisions of the Housing of the Working Classes Acts; and, if so, at what rent; (c) whether the tenant is liable for rates in addition to the rent; and, if so (d) the poor law valuation of the premises and the amount of the current rates thereon.

Mr. Murphy

I understand that this property is being disposed of at present for a term not exceeding one year and that the corporation is advised that it is a disposal within their discretion. The terms of the letting are, therefore, matters solely for the corporation and the lessee, and I have no statutory responsibility in the matter.

Has the Minister been informed what the rent, in fact, is?

The Minister says he has no responsibility in the matter.

I am asking the Minister if he is aware of the rent that, in fact, is being paid for these houses, and that the corporation is charging a rent that would be scandalous in the case of a private landlord.
