Vol. 111 No. 16

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Travelling Creamery.

asked the Minister for Agriculture whether he is aware that farmers in the areas of Cromane, Carragh Lake and Glencutane districts have made repeated demands to the Dairy Disposal Company Limited, for the service of a portable creamery; and, if so, whether he will ensure that these farmers are provided with the facilities asked for at the earliest possible date.

The answer to the first part of the question is "Yes". With regard to the second part, I am informed by the Dairy Disposal Company that, following surveys of the districts referred to by the Deputy, the conclusion was reached that the quantity of milk in these districts which is not already being delivered to creameries is insufficient to justify the provision of travelling creamery facilities.

Mr. Flynn

Is the Minister aware that since the date of that survey it has been suggested that the other areas— Carragh Lake and Glencutane—should be formed into one central group and could he see his way to ask the Dairy Disposal Company to re-examine the position in regard to these districts?

As I understand the position, there are two separating stations, one within five and a half miles of Cromane and another within one and a half miles of Cromane and all the milk in the area is in fact being taken with the exception of about 80 cows. If the Deputy can make any suggestion which would better suit the convenience of the people, I am sure the Dairy Disposal Company would be anxious to fall in with him, because there do appear to be serious difficulties.

Mr. Flynn

I shall have further representations made.

I will be glad to have them.
