Vol. 111 No. 18

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Visitors—Exorbitant Prices.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce whether he is aware that visitors to Ireland are charged exorbitant prices for accommodation and food by hotels and restaurants; and, if so, what steps he proposes taking towards ensuring that visitors to Ireland will not be discouraged by these practices.

The maximum prices chargeable by any hotel for accommodation and meals are those published in respect of that hotel in the official list issued by the Irish Tourist Board and if an hotel charges prices in excess of those published, its registration under the Tourist Traffic Act, 1939, may be withdrawn. It would not be practicable to apply and enforce control over the prices charged in restaurants. I do not propose to take any action in the matter.
