Vol. 112 No. 9

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Dismissal of Civilian Labourer from Barracks.

asked the Minister for Defence if he is aware that Mr. Edward Griffin, Water Lane, Bohermore, Galway, was dismissed on the ground of redundancy from employment as a civilian labourer at Renmore Barracks, Galway; that he was the only ex-Army man among six such labourers employed there and that he has seven children between the ages of two and 11 years; further, if he will say why his claim to be retained in employment was considered to be less meritorious than that of any of the five other employees.

It has been found necessary to make reductions in the numbers of civilians employed by my Department due to redundancy. Six labourers were employed at Renmore Barracks, Galway. Two of these, the latest employees recruited, were discharged. Mr. Edward Griffin was one of the two and was the last labourer to be employed at the post in question.
