Vol. 112 No. 9

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Cutting Off of Electricity Supply.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce whether he is aware that there is grave discontent amongst the tenants of Dublin Corporation houses with the new policy of the Electricity Supply Board of cutting off the supply of electricity to any tenant who fails in the making of only one week's payment; that the collectors are calling at very irregular hours, and if the tenant is not at home at the precise time they call the money will not afterwards be accepted but the supply is cut off within 24 hours; and, if so, whether he will take steps to terminate this most unfair procedure.

As stated in a reply which I gave to a question in Dáil Éireann on the 12th May last, the consumers have contracted to pay their charges weekly, and disconnection is effected only after due warning and where the consumer has frequently omitted to pay his account when due. To facilitate the consumers, it is the practice of the collectors to call on a fixed day and at a uniform time each week to receive the money.
