Vol. 112 No. 11

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Cashel, Golden and Bansha Water Supply.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he is now in a position to state when sanction will be given for the proposed water supply to Cashel, Golden and Bansha, from the Galtee mountains.

I would refer the Deputy to the replies I gave to his previous question on this subject. The consulting engineer has not yet completed the necessary investigations on the scheme.

Is the Parliamentary Secretary aware that the position in the town of Cashel is unprecedented, that the pumps and the engines are practically useless, that there is scarcely any water available for the residents of the town and that over 100 workers' houses are without any water? Further, is he aware that there are two institutions, the county hospital and the county home, without water? Again, is he aware that the village of Golden is known as a fever belt, due absolutely and entirely to a bad water supply? Again is he aware that Bansha——

The Deputy is making a speech.

I am asking the Parliamentary Secretary is he aware——

In view of the fact that these conditions have existed for 16 years he should be aware.

But the magic wand of the Coalition Government was not waved until now. Is the Parliamentary Secretary aware that Bansha is now an industrialised village? That, of course, is not due to the Coalition Government.

I appreciate that such conditions may exist there but, as I have stated, the investigations are not yet completed. The consulting engineer has not yet completed his investigations and until he has there is nothing that I can do in the matter.

Will the Parliamentary Secretary, owing to the seriousness of the situation, take steps to expedite the necessary work in these areas?

I shall.
