Vol. 112 No. 12

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Rent of Navan Artisans' Dwellings.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he will state whether tenders for the erection of 24 artisans' dwellings were recently received in his Department from the Navan Urban Council and what action he proposes to take to permit of the houses being let at a reasonable rent in the event of these tenders being accepted.

Mr. Murphy

The tenders referred to have been received in the Department and the acceptance of one of them as recommended by the urban council has been approved. The question of the rents to be charged for the houses is a matter for the local authority in the first instance.

Is the Minister aware that according to a published report, those houses cannot be let at less than 16/2 a week, and will he say what action he proposes to take to have the houses let at a reasonable rent to artisans?

Mr. Murphy

As I have informed the Deputy, it is a matter for the local authority in the first instance. When their proposals, having regard to all the circumstances, come to the Department they will be examined and a decision given.
