Vol. 113 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Compensation to Jurors.

asked the Minister for Justice if it is intended to provide compensation to jurors for loss of time and out-of-pocket expenses incurred in the discharge of their duty.

I would refer the Deputy to my reply to his question on this subject of the 17th June last to which I have at present nothing to add.

Is the Minister aware that legislation has been introduced, I think, in Great Britain to provide compensation for jurors and that the introduction of such legislation in Great Britain has caused some hopes to arise in the hearts of jurors in this country that the Minister will consider them?

I do not feel compelled to follow legislation in Great Britain on this or any other matter.
