Vol. 113 No. 9

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Motor Cycle Tax.

asked the Minister for Finance whether he is aware that the Road Fund tax on motor cycles is beyond the means of persons desiring to use these machines; and whether he will take steps to have this tax reduced to an amount of not more than 60 per cent. above that of 1947.

I am not aware that the position in regard to the road tax on motor cycles is as stated by the Deputy. In regard to the second part of his question, the tax on motor cycles is but one aspect of the general problem of motor taxation which, as I indicated in my reply to the Deputy's question on that subject on the 24th of last month, cannot be dealt with until the report of the expert—referred to in that reply—is forthcoming.
