Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - State Pensioners—Retiring Gratuity.

asked the Minister for Finance what classes of State pensioners receive a retiring gratuity in addition to their pensions.

The State pensioners who receive a gratuity in addition to an annual allowance on retirement are (1) men appointed to an established position in the Civil Service on or after the date of the passage of the Superannuation Act, 1909 (20th September, 1909), (2) men appointed to an established position in the Civil Service previous to that date who adopted the provisions of the Superannuation Act, 1909, (3) District Justices who held office at the date of the passage of the Courts of Justice Act, 1936 (28th November, 1936) and who have been allowed to retain the benefit of the pension terms provided by the Courts of Justice Act, 1924, and (4) married officers of the Defence Forces.
