Vol. 114 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Coal Freight Rates.

Mr. Blaney

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he has completed his examination of the operation since September 15th, 1948, of shipping freight rates for coal from Scottish ports to Derry at 10/- per ton below the rates from the same ports to Buncrana, which results in diversion of trade from Buncrana to Derry merchants; whether he has taken any action in the matter; and, if so, with what result.

I have taken this matter up with the British authorities concerned. I understand that the British control on the freights charged by British vessels has now been withdrawn. I am, however, still pursuing my inquiries and hope to have further information at an early date.
