Vol. 114 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Income and Other Statistics.

asked the Minister for Finance if he will give for 1945, 1946, 1947 and 1948, or any of those years, estimates of (a) total personal incomes less taxation; (b) expenditure on consumption; (c) personal savings and investments; (d) Governmental expenditure of a capital nature; (e) gross values of total production; (f) earnings of external assets owned in Ireland; (g) earnings of Irish assets owned abroad; (h) nett receipts from tourist expenditure, and (i) aggregate nett results of other invisible trade transactions.

The information requested appears to be required to supplement the statistics published in the White Paper on National Income and Expenditure, 1938-1944. It has not yet been possible to assemble all the material required for a further publication in this series and the figures requested at (a) to (d) of the question are not available.

As regards (e), the gross production of goods (valued at current prices, free of duty, at places of production) is estimated at £190,000,000 for 1945 and £210,000,000 for 1946. These figures are provisional and no later figures are available.

The information requested at (f) to (i) has appeared in the Balance of Payments Statements published in the Irish Trade Journal. The figures for 1948 are not yet available.
