Vol. 114 No. 6

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Pre-cast Houses.

asked the Minister for Local Government whether he or the housing council established by him have considered the proposals of Mr. John J. Fitzpatrick for the erection of pre-cast houses; if he is aware that these are durable, comfortable and economic in construction and efficiency and that when the foundations have been laid, some of them can be erected in eight hours and others completed in a few days; and, if so, whether considering the desperate shortage of housing accommodation and dangerous overcrowding, he will direct immediately that this extremely practical scheme be adopted forthwith.

Mr. Murphy

Mr. Fitzpatrick's proposals have not been submitted to the Department or to the Dublin Housing Consultative Council. If such proposals are submitted I shall be happy to have them examined. As the Deputy is aware, the Dublin Corporation recently invited tenders for the erection of houses by new building methods and I understand that 50 tenders have been received.

Is the Minister aware that Mr. Fitzpatrick has submitted these proposals to the director of housing and that the director indicated that the proposals answered all the requirements of the council?

Mr. Murphy

I am not aware of that. I am very glad to know it, and I shall have that matter inquired into further.
