Vol. 114 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Dismissal of Irish Worker.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce whether he is aware that on the farm of a foreigner in County Wicklow an Irish worker, employed as a farm labourer, has been dismissed in favour of a foreign worker; and if the Minister will indicate what steps he proposes to take to safeguard the employment of Irish workers against foreign labour.

I was not aware of the facts as stated. Aliens may be employed only under permit issued by me to the employer, under the Aliens Order, 1946. No application has been received for such a permit in this case, and I am having inquiries made into the matter.
