Vol. 114 No. 12

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Housing on County Mayo Estates.

asked the Minister for Lands whether he is aware of the conditions prevailing on the Carter and Bingham estates, in the barony of Erris, as regards housing, etc., and of the need for the rearrangement and fencing of the small holdings there and the migration of some of the people to the Midlands; and, if so, whether he will have conditions on these estates improved.

As regards the Carter estate, I would refer the Deputy to the reply given to his question of 4th May, 1948.

It is not possible to state at this stage when the Land Commission will be in a position to deal with the balance of the holdings comprising the estate.

As regards the Bingham estate, survey of the holdings comprising the estate is a necessary preliminary to rearrangement. The survey will be undertaken as soon as circumstances permit.
