Vol. 114 No. 13

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Galway Rural Improvement Schemes.

asked the Minister for Finance if he will state (i) the date on which application was made for a rural improvement scheme at Inchaboy, Galway 634; (ii) whether this scheme of work was inspected and, if so, when; (iii) when work is to start, and (iv) what is the cause of delay.

asked the Minister for Finance if he will state (a) the dates on which applications were made for rural improvements schemes at (i) Moyglass, Galway 783; (ii) Lavally, Galway 753: (iii) Parkmore, Galway 734, and (iv) Funcinmore, Galway 760; (b) the date on which each of these schemes of works was inspected; and (c) the cause of the delay in carrying out the work.

I propose to deal with Questions Nos. 10 and 11 together. The following are the dates of receipt of the applications for grants under the rural improvements scheme:— Galway 783 on 24th July, 1948; Galway 753 on 18th May, 1948; Galway 734 on 9th March, 1948; Galway 760 on 28th May, 1948; Galway 634 on 12th December, 1946. Nos. 734 and 634 have been inspected and an offer of a grant has now been issued to the applicants in respect of No. 634.

As I informed the Deputy in reply to a Dáil question on 1st December last, the examination of applications under the rural improvements scheme has been seriously handicapped by the shortage of inspectors, and during the recent winter months the inspectors who were available were fully engaged on the supervision of works in progress. As the employment schemes in County Galway are now closed down, the services of the inspectors will be utilised to clear off the arrears of inspections as rapidly as possible.
